Wai Yeng is a Singapore registered patent attorney with over 15 years’ experience working on a wide range of technology and IP matters. She advises businesses on both registration and enforcement of IP rights and partners with incubators, accelerators as well as government agencies that promote innovative companies to expand overseas to provide technology-focused IP strategies, particularly in the area of patents.
Wai Yeng’s patent clients range from individual inventors pursuing solutions to solve pressing climate change issues to tertiary institutions as well as established multi-nationals. She has drafted and prosecuted patent applications to grant for computer-implemented inventions, mechanical systems, semi-conductor test equipment, electrical appliances as well as building and construction related innovations.
She has extensive experience managing IP registrations across the Southeast Asian region. Between 2015-2016, she was assigned to Yangon to manage the IP team of the largest foreign legal practice in Myanmar. In the same year she was appointed as external IP Expert to the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk, a project funded by the European Commission to provide IP support European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In 2023, she officially joined the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk team as Senior IP Quality Control Advisor.
Wai Yeng was enlisted as an external expert by WIPO in 2022 to prepare a high-level study on the feasibility of a Common Patent System in the ASEAN Region and Regional Convergence Models in Patent Systems as Deliverable 9.5 of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan (AIPRAP) 2016-2025.
She was a primary examiner in the examination committee of IPOS Patent Agent Qualifying Examinations for two years (2018-2019), responsible for setting questions and marking answers for Patent Law and Patent Practice in Singapore (Paper D).
